What is Data?
Data is the raw material which comes in binary digital form. It is input to be processed and organised by a computer, with the output being usable information.
When data is processed and organised, it is called information, and so has meaningful value to the receiver.

Analogue Data
Analogue data have a value that varies smoothly and continuously in a range, infinitely. It is easier to understand. When converting analogue to digital, an analogue to digital converter (ADC) is required. An example is a microphone. When you plug a microphone into a computer, you plug it into the ADC. It then converts the analogue signals into digital form for the computer to process.
Digital Data
Digital is represented as distinct, discontinuous binary digits. When converting digital to analogue a digital to analogue converter (DAC) is required. Examples are loudspeakers and headphones. When a loudspeaker or headphone is plugged into a computer, it is plugged into a DAC. This takes digital data from the computer and turns it into analogue form.
