Why do you need to secure your data?
As the world gets more reliant on technology and online storage capabilities, there can be various valuable information that is stored digitally such as bank account details, passwords, personal and medical files. Hackers and malware infections can gain access important data and if unprotected, data can potentially be salvaged and utilized against the user. This is especially true when files are transferred online/over the internet through emails or forums. If important data is accidently sent to the wrong address, others are able to access it unless it is secured. Your data can also be altered or deleted. Identity theft is also a serious threat and can affect anyone.

Cybercrime
Cybercrime has become a major threat as a result of the rise in technology use. Cyber-criminals have the opportunity to steal identities, money and confidential information and hackers are able to create viruses which can destroy hardware, corrupt software and even track your keystrokes. There are even major hacking organisations such as the one which released 13,000 username and passwords from various popular sites. Another example is Thomas Jirikovsky who laundered $40 million in digital currency and owned a black market website. These crimes are major yet receive less publicity than other crimes and are considered less threatening. As a result, many more people can become victims and security methods should become more widespread.
